Every day that a new controversy related to a godman or a self-styled baba comes out, it makes one wonder how people can still trust them. The latest one to be under fire is Swami Chaitanyananda Saraswati alias Parthasarathy, who is on the run after he was accused of sexually harassing at least 17 female students at his ashram in Delhi.
The self-styled godman was the director of a private management institute, run by Sri Sringeri Sharada Peetham.
Reports have come out about alleged chats, lewd messages, hidden cameras, and staff abetting with whatever was going on in the ashram.
What Happened With This Godman?
Swami Chaitanyananda Saraswasti was formerly Swami (Dr) Parthasarathy and hails from Odisha. As per an NDTV report, he has been living in Sri Sringeri Math’s ashram for the past 12 years.
He was also the (now former) director of Sri Sharada Institute of Indian Management, overseeing academic operations.
According to several reports, around 17 female students from the Vasant Kunj institute have come forward to accuse Swami Chaitanyananda of sexually harassing them.
On August 4, P.A. Murali registered a complaint against him at the Vasant Kunj (North) police station, bringing the matter to light.
Murali, CEO of Dakshinamnaya Sri Sharada Peetham (Sringeri Math) in Karnataka, filed the complaint against Chaitanyananda and three female wardens, claiming that they targeted students from the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) category enrolled in PGDM courses at the institute.
The police took the statement of 32 students, out of which at least 17 female students, admitted that they were sexually harassed by the accused.
According to reports, he would also send them lewd WhatsApp messages and texts, would initiate unwanted physical contact, and pressured by some of the female staff members to comply or face consequences.

As per some of the text messages recovered by the police, he wrote, “Come to my room… I will take you abroad for a trip, you won’t have to pay,” and “If you don’t listen to me, I will ensure that you fail.”
He would also call the girls to his room late at night, threaten to reduce marks, fail students, or deny documents if they refused to comply.
The staff was also said to be aiding the godman in his acts, pressuring them to delete incriminating chats, intimidating students, and more.
An officer, as per The Hindu, also said, “If they refused his advances, they would be threatened either by him or the wardens. Sometimes, the wardens even forced the students to delete the messages, leaving little proof.”
This is not the first time that he has been involved in criminal activity.
On two separate occasions, complaints of molestation and fraud have been registered against him, once in 2009, in Defense Colony, Delhi, which even resulted in a brief arrest, and second in 2016, this time in Vasant Kunj.
His finances have also been called into question, especially when authorities found a saffron-coloured Volvo in the basement of his ashram with counterfeit United Nations plates marked “39 UN 1.”
Police have now booked him under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including on charges of misusing a property mark to defraud [Section 345(3)], cheating [Section 318(4)], forgery [Section 336(3)], and creating false documents [Section 340(2)].
The godman, as per the latest report, has been on the run for almost two months, with the police giving chase to arrest him.
